Podcast

We did a podcast on our Teaching from the Kitchen subjects. Each one of us recorded a section of the podcast on our own subject area. We used the program Audacity. I've never used Audacity or made a podcast before. It was a very different experience to record our own voices, but we enjoyed it.

Publisher- 10/5/10

In class on October 5th we learned how to create different documents in Microsoft Publisher. For example we made award certificates, busniess cards, and a resume. The best part about Publisher that we have learned so far is the ability to type in your business information and it will show up for each document you create. You can also type a list of contacts for creating certificates-names and address will be automatically put in to each certificate with the use of the contact list. I've used other programs similar to Publisher but I never knew that there was much more to it than just creating a simple document. Very interesting!

September 28, 2010: Google Docs

Today in class we learned how to share documents in Google Docs so that others can edit them. We shared our introductions and pictures with each other so that everyone in our group could view them. Lindsey put all of our introductions together with the title "Who Are We?" at the top. We made everything uniform: 12 pt size font, pink in color, and centered everyone's picture before their introduction. After refreshing the page, we were able to view our new collaborated introductions.
Google Docs can be very useful for other things like group projects. Instead of sending emails back and forth with attachments with new changes, we can make the changes right on Google Docs and it is available for everyone to see right away. I'm sure Google Docs will be useful in the future.

Thursday, September 23

Today in class we learned more about our WebQuests. Once I get the hang of it I know they'll be a lot of fun to use. Besides Instructional Media, today I had Children's Literature. I was supposed to present my digistory which was a video of me reading a children's book, but the video wouldn't open from my flash drive. Great, right? Maybe Dr. Hossain can help me out with that one! Good news is, work was pretty fun tonight. I love teaching gymnastic classes and the kids always make me smile. It was also my turn to make family dinner tonight for me and my 3 roommates (we take turns every Thursday). This week was chicken stir fry. :)

Individual Concept Map

My individual concept map was made to give information about my life. I'm an Elementary Education major with a minor in Reading. I absolutely love to be around my family...we have a black cat at home. My favorite sport is gymnastics, which I competed for 15 years. Gymnastics gave me many travel opportunities, which leads me to my favorite vacation so far: Russia.

Intro

Hi, my name is Sarah. I'm from a small town just outside of Pottsville, PA called New Philadelphia. I graduated from Pottsville Area High School in 2008. This is my third year at Lock Haven University, studying Elementary Education and minoring in Reading.

During the summer I work at my gymnastics club teaching classes to the younger students. This job is what inspired me to pursue an Elementary Education degree. I really enjoy teaching gymnastics, and I believe that a lot of the methods we use to teach new skills at gymnastics are the same as those that we can use to teach in the classroom.

I'm not sure how to explain my experience with technology. At first there are some things I'm not so sure how to work, but once I experiment with something like a computer or a new phone I can get the hang of it. Other than that, I can't say I'm a genius with technology. I hope to learn more about technology with this class, mostly things that will help me when I'm a teacher! I have taken online classes before. Last summer I took History of the United States through Lock Haven and this summer I took Economics through Penn State Schuylkill. I can manage with online courses but I would much prefer a face-to-face classroom setting. If we had the choice to take this class either online or in the classroom, I would have chosen to take it in the classroom. That way it would be easier to see how things are done and how they are done correctly.

An interesting fact about me is that I did competitive gymnastics for 15 years, starting when I was 3 years old. Gymnastics allowed me to travel to many different places, including Hawaii, Colorado, Florida, and even parts of Europe- Russia, Amsterdam, and Belgium. I'm very grateful for every opportunity I've had from gymnastics. As I mentioned before, I still teach classes in the summer and during the school year I teach gymnastic classes and am assistant coach of the gymnastic team at the Lock Haven YMCA. :)
